Places to Visit in Mirik – Mirik Weather

Mirik has a beautiful lake at the heart of the town. The lake was actually beautified in the year 1964 by Shree Siddhartha Shankar Ray the then Chief Minister of West Bengal. Pine forest on the other side of the lake would really attract the attention of the tourist. It looks so beautiful that one would like to go inside the forest.
An Arch Bridge is built across Sumendu Lake which is popularly known as Rainbow Bridge / Indreni Pul. Tourist can enjoy boating in the Sumendu Lake and sometimes they can do fishing at the lake too. There is a picnic spot also near the lake. Good number of shops are also located around the lake for people to have a refreshing time.

Bokar Monastery
Bokar Monastery is one of the tourist attraction of Mirik. Monastery is run by the Tibetian Buddism. From the Bokar Monastery one can get the best view. of the main town of Mirik. The Monastery is located at the top of the hill and is situated at about a kilometre East/South East of Mirik Lake and about a couple of kilometres from Mirik Bus Stop.
Bokar Ngedon Chokhor Ling Monastery view can be admired from the Mirik Lake which is far below.
Thurbo Tea Estate
World class tea is produced at the Thurbo Tea Estate which has surrounded the town. Most part of the town belongs to tea garden area. One can visit the garden and also visit the Factory after taking due permission from the Garden Authority. The Thurbo Garden is famous since the time of British Rule.
Tea Gardens in Mirik
The other Tea Garden adjacent the town are Okayti, Sourini, Phuguri, Gopal Dhara, Murma etc.
Okayti Factory is built on the bank of the river Mechi. The Mechi River itself has separated the two countries, i.e Nepal and India. The location of the factory is very attractive as it is located at the vale between the two hills.
There are some picturesque view point at Murma Tea Estate which is connected by jeepable road. Now a days shared vehicles are avialable throughout the day.
Mirik Busty or Duptin Busty
On the other side of the town, there is Mirik Busty which is popularly called Duptin Busty. Here, one can look at the Orange Garden. Most of the oranges for the district are supplied from here. Plenty of gardens are found here. Local vegetables are supplied at large scale. Among vegetables squash has dominated the supply. There is no difficulty in visiting the area as reserve and shared taxis is easily available.
Bunkulung
One should not miss to visit the picturique village of Bunkulung. The beauty of the nature will easily catch one’s attention. There are many homestay’s there. Tourists can halt at the homestay and enjoy the beauty of the place.
Pineapple plantation is done by the local people. From here pineapple is supplied to Mirik Bazzar and Darjeeling as well.

How do I get to Mirik? Mirik to Darjeeling – Siliguri to Mirik
From Siliguri, Mirik is situated 48 kilometers away. Regularly shared taxis are available from Siliguri, so there will be no difficulty in catching a taxi to Mirik. It takes nearly two hours to reach Mirik from Siliguri. From Darjeeling, Mirik is 60 kilometers away, so one can go from Darjeeling too.
The nearest railway station is NJP Station and Bagdogra Airport is the nearest airport.
