Places to Visit in Takdah – A beautiful destination Near Darjeeling – Many Darjeeling Homestays Available. Takdah Cantonment is a neighborhood in the Rangli Rangliot CD block in Darjeeling district West Bengal. It is located at a altitude of about 4,000 ft and close to Darjeeling, yet a mesmerized, quite and serene. The altitude is much lower so the place is much cooler then there surrounding.

Takdah is a Lepcha word meaning mist and fog, the name is given to this place because it is always covered with fog. Takdah is a beautiful place in Darjeeling where you can hangout with family and friends. It is also considered as the romantic place in Darjeeling, where you can find misty meandering roads, birds chirping, dense forests and rolling tea gardens on the hill slopes. 

In early 1990s Tukdah started as a military Cantonment during the British colonial days. Many senior British Officers use to visit Tukdah during those days. So many Bungalows and houses were made as a accommodation for them. The house were built in traditional British architecture with slanted roofs.

Most of these houses were left behind after India’s Independence, they now either belong to some locals or have been taken over by schools or some locals have turned it into guesthouse and homestay. So you will get an opportunity to stay in the heritage bungalow, enjoy the old colonial charm of old British homes.

Tourist Attraction in Takdah

Rungli Rangliot: Rungli Rangliot is one of the prettiest tea estate in Darjeeling. It’s about 2km downhill from Tukdah market area. It is said that the tea estate was named Rungli Rangliot by a monk while he was searching for the best tea in Darjeeling District the meaning of the name is ‘This far and no further’.

Orchid Center: Orchid Center has been the favourite of tourists visiting Tukdah lately, where a variety of rare Himalayan Orchid are cultivated. The Orchid Center was one of the best in Asia was neglected for a long time. But recently fresh initiative to revive the centre.

Tinchuley: It is located about 3km away from Takdah which is a small mountain village, Tinchuley means ‘three ovens’. If you love nature, the lovely views of the Himalayan range, like to see Teesta river flow, then this is the right place for you.

Durpin Viewpoint: Durpin Viewpoint is located about 10km from Takdah. You can get a mesmerising view of Teesta river and also get a view of Kanchenjunga from there. 

Dara dokan: Dara dokan is a local bazzar located in Takdah which sets up a weekly hat on Thursday. If you visit Takdah on Thursday do not miss it. You will get to see the organic vegetables coming from nearby places, you will get the glimpse of local life.

How to reach Takdah?

The nearest railway station is NJP which is about 60km and Bagdogra is the nearest airport. While coming from NJP or Bagdogra you need to take Sevoke Road also known and NH10, then Rambo bazaar, Teesta Bazaar etc before reaching Takdha. 

While coming from Darjeeling you have to come up to Jorebungalow and take left to Peshok read, and after reaching 6th mile you have to take left again before reaching Takdha.

You will get taxies, local share taxies from Siliguri, NJP, Bagdogra and Darjeeling and the fares of taxies varies according to the distance.

The best time to visit Takdah is October to March it is the perfect time to enjoy chill winter.
